A seat is a position. An alliance is a legacy. When Black women lead together, we don’t just access power—we redefine it, and elevate entire systems.

About Us

Our Commitment to Black Women & Girls

We believe that access is not the destination—it is the responsibility. Every seat we hold carries weight.
Every room we enter carries history. And every door we walk through was opened by someone who believed we should be there. We do not take that lightly.

Because our leadership is not just about us.
It is about the Black women who came before us—
and the girls who are watching what we do next.

Our Manifesto

We commit to building pathways—not just moments.

To ensuring that our success is not isolated,
but multiplied. To mentoring, sponsoring, and advocating—not occasionally, but consistently.  We commit to telling the truth about power. To demystifying the rooms we enter. To sharing what we’ve learned. To making the path clearer for those coming behind us. Because silence does not protect legacy—it limits it.

Our Belief

We believe Black women deserve more than representation.

We deserve:

  • to be heard without hesitation
  • to lead without limitation
  • to influence without resistance

And we believe Black girls deserve to see that as their standard—not their exception.

The Architect of the Room: Dr. Dorothy Height

Why Dorothy Height is the Epitome of a S.E.A.T. Leader

We pay homage to Dorothy Height because she transformed the "lone seat" into a collective movement.  Dorothy Height was more than a civil rights icon; she was the architect of the "seat at the table" for Black women long before the phrase became a modern professional anthem. For S.E.A.T., she represents the ultimate standard of strategic leadership, intersectional advocacy, and enduring grace.

As president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), she worked closely with MLK Jr., Roy Wilkins, and others to strategize and organize the 1963 March on Washington and much more.  Dr. Height didn’t just wait for an invitation; she built her own chairs and expanded the rooms they were placed in.

The Big Six

Dorothy Height (1912–2010) was a pivotal civil rights leader often considered the "seventh" member, yet frequently overlooked, participant in the "Big Six" group of male civil rights leaders.  Height collaborated with the "Big Six" (King, Farmer, Lewis, Randolph, Wilkins, Young), and although she was often the only woman at the table, her role was frequently ignored by the press.

Dorothy Height quietly changed the face of the civil rights movement. Dr. Height fought not just for racial justice but for women’s equality. Despite being largely pushed to the background during this time, Dr. Height is now known as the “godmother of civil rights.”  She did this with style and grace, always dawning her signature hats, with purple being a particular favorite.

Activist James Farmer wrote in his 1985 autobiography that, “Women were everywhere in the movement yet most of the bows were taken by men. Dorothy Height’s presence helped to change that.” This is demonstrated above as Dr. Height is pictured meeting with President Lyndon B. Johnson and key civil rights leaders, including Dr. Martin Luther King at the White House.

Height and other members of Delta Sigma Theta sorority present Mrs. Eisenhower with their song, "There'll be a Jubilee," on May 14, 1953 in Washington.  Height is credited as the first leader in the civil rights movement to recognize inequality for women and Foundational Black Americans as problems that should be considered as a whole.
